Well, That was an eventful month

All sorts of things have been happening here for the past few weeks! It's been crazy!


First off, please accept our apologies for the downtime. It was absolutely necessary.


So what's been happening? To surmise: we've had hackers, ISP failures, Tornados (not literally) and interference from real life (Isn't that always a pain!) I won’t go into too much detail but the long and the squirrely of it is we’ve had to do a massive security overhaul, not only on the code itself but also on the server (just in case) the password hashing which we mentioned previously in an email and our monitoring of all of the previous. We have all been working hard to try and achieve this and I know some of you are peeved to have had to wait, I know this sucks but it has sucked for us more

I personally had to cancel my plans last weekend and had spent over 16 hours over the course of the two days working on the code alone, I’ve spent lunchtimes and evenings during the week sorting this out so no, we couldn’t’ have done it any quicker and I’m sorry that sometimes there was a lack of feedback or sympathy for you but hopefully now you’ll understand why.


The good news is we’re almost there, we still have a lot of testing to do and a little more tweaking of the system but we’re close. We aim to be back on Monday 3rd October, a date we shouldn’t have issue keeping this time. We will discuss a little bit later times and exactly what we’ll plan to do with the current rounds, once we know we’ll let you know.

New Sol and Protheus Rounds - 12th and 14th

We're going to be starting two new rounds within the next week. Signup for Sol will start on Monday 12th, while signup for Protheus will start on Wednesday 14th. Here are the full round details:

Sol

Signup starts: Monday 12th September 18:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Wednesday 14th September 18:00 (GMT)
Newbie mode: 48 ticks
Alliance setup: Sector alliances (2 per alliance)
Private spots: 0
Ship limit: 14


Protheus

Signup starts: Wednesday 14th September 22:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Friday 16th September 22:00 (GMT)
Newbie mode: 48 ticks
Alliance setup: Sector alliances (2 per alliance)
Private spots: 0
Ship limit: 14

Both of these rounds will be two alliance rounds.

Yes, we know you can't log in.This is intentional.

There is a very good reason for it.

We hope to have it resolved sometime this evening (BST Time), More information will be coming out at the same time in email form.

Update and New Rounds

This is an email being sent to anyone that has signed up to Star-Fury in the last 12 months. If you haven't been following or playing SF in the last three or four months then you will not be aware of some of our updates.

Some of the big changes are:

*New in-game layout/theme
*Raid system - four or eight player raids

Protheus

Ticks start: Sunday 28th August 22:00 (GMT)

Ship limit: 14

Protheus will also be a two alliance round.

The current Protheus round is still running, but will end shortly. If anyone wants to give raiding a try before these two rounds start, then get on signup and get on IRC!

New Protheus Round - 14th August

We will be starting a new round of Protheus on Sunday 14th August at 22:00. The last few rounds have been pretty low on numbers. I'm not exactly sure why this is. I have a feeling that people decided to stop playing when we added the new layout. If that's the case I'll reiterate that it is staying around, and because of it we are able to add new features at a much faster rate.

For anyone that hasn't tried out the raid system then you are missing out. The new tech tree and races are around 60% complete in terms of being added to the game. For those that don't 'Like' SF on facebook, you will not have seen the preview pictures of the new races, and changes made to the current races. Check them out from here: http://on.fb.me/oq5P4P

I'll possibly post some previews of the new tech tree and some new features with descriptions over the next few days.

New Sol Round - 5th August

Firstly, I was only told recently that there was a problem when trying to signup to the passport. Hopefully that problem hasn't been around for very long. It should now be fixed.

Secondly, not everyone follows SF on Facebook (you should if you don't!), but I recently posted an update on the development of SF on there. It can be read at this link: http://on.fb.me/n2Mf3b

As for the new Sol round I think we're going to go with 10 minute ticks again. It seems like a good speed because it's not slow, but it isn't fast enough to only appeal to the players that never sleep.
